Half the time, he seems only vaguely aware that he's a police officer, and even when he can remember that he doesn't seem to notice anything weird about the stuff they deal with. At one point, he comments that he's never understood the point of fire alarms, since surely alarming a fire would only make it more dangerous. As a man, his ability to put a coherent thought together hasn't improved much.
